Product Review

The perfect stew pot, these covered casseroles are also terrific for ratatouille, beef stroganoff, or macaroni and cheese. And the striking finish makes it perfect for serving as well as cooking. The next generation of All-Clad's original Master-Chef line, MC2 brings a shimmering brushed aluminum exterior to the classic mirror-finished interior and handles of 18/10 stainless steel, for modern industrial style with time-tested cooking performance. The brushed finish can handle everyday wear and tear and still look great. A triple-layer core of pure aluminum extends across the bottom and up the sides for unsurpassed heat conductivity with no hot spots. The rolled lip of the pan ensures drip-free transfer of contents, and the lid forms a tight seal for capturing flavor and nutrients. Loop handles are secured by noncorrosive stainless steel rivets. Oven safe to 500 degrees F. Dishwasher safe, but we recommend hand-washing with CHEF'S Stainless Steel Cleaner to preserve the beauty of the finish. Made in the USA.

Amazon.com Review

The second generation of All-Clad's Master Chef line (MC2), this cookware combines brushed aluminum with stainless-steel accents for a contemporary look. Like All-Clad's other renowned cookware collections, Master Chef provides serious and professional cooks with all the virtues that make All-Clad's worldwide reputation unsurpassed. Key to its high performance is a three-ply, bonded construction. Sandwiched between the exterior and an 18/10 stainless-steel interior is a thick aluminum core that spreads heat evenly across the bottom of the pan and all the way up its sides. The interior is highly polished so it's stick- as well as corrosion-resistant. Handles, rivets, and tight-fitting lids are all gleaming stainless steel.

This 3-1/2-quart casserole pan illustrates the Master Chef line's stylish yet practical design. It's ideal for baking casseroles, simmering soups and stocks, cooking pasta, and slow-cooking stew in the oven. Because the aluminum core extends up the sides, foods cook uniformly, even though the pan is 3-1/2 inches deep (8 inches in diameter). And because the interior is nonreactive, tomato-based sauces and other acidic foods won't taste metallic. Its polished 18/10 stainless-steel pan and lid handles are riveted for strength and grooved on the top for comfort. The loop handles stay cool on the stovetop but won't be harmed by an oven's heat. Master Chef cookware carries a lifetime warranty against defects and should be hand washed. --Fred Brack

5.0 out of 5 stars Read the instructions, February 23, 2003

I had problems with sticking as well, until I read the instructions from All-Clad. Since the cookware conducts heats so well, you should never (or rarely) set the burner hotter than Medium (5 on a scale of 1-10). This works like a champ and its still extremely hot. Also Bar Keepers Helper does a great job of removing the stains.

4.0 out of 5 stars great pot, but hot handles, June 12, 2006

We received this as a wedding gift, and the size is excellent. The MC2 brushed finish is far easier to keep clean than our all-clad stainless pans. The only problem is that the handles on this pot get extremely hot (not just warm) when I use it--I can't touch them at all without pot-holders. I'm used to the stay-cool all-clad frying pan handles. I assumed that the shorter handles would stay cool as well, but they didn't.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes amazing rice!, May 10, 2004

This is a very useful saute/ soup/ casserole/ saucepan that can double for numerous purposes in a pinch. I have cooked veggies, meat, and curries in here and each have turned out delicious. But the real miracle is how beautifully it cooks rice--brown or white (I cook 2 cups at a time, and keep the flame low to prevent the rice sticking to the bottom of the pot). These days I have more saucepans than I used to, so I use it almost exclusively for that, but how nice to have such a versatile instrument!
