Whether you're hosting an intimate dinner party or a grand buffet, Calphalon Enamel Cast Iron cookware's rich enamel color and sleek, modern silhouettes make elegant entertaining easy. Ideal for stovetop or oven use and for both savory and sweet recipes, Calphalon Enamel Cast Iron cookware offers tremendous versatility. It creates the perfect environment for slowly simmering meats and potatoes. The cookware's domed cover design features a dimpled interior to collect and redistribute moisture to foods as they cook. Chicken soup, beef stew and other homey favorites cook up tender and flavorful. The cookware is also perfectly suited to casseroles, cobblers and baked pasta dishes. Calphalon Enamel Cast Iron cookware is as durable as it is beautiful. All pans feature a porcelain enamel exterior surface that resists chipping and scratching. Fry pans and grill pans feature a black satin enamel interior that requires no pre-seasoning. The perfect choice for soups, stews and pot roasted meats and poultry. Wide flat bottom is ideal for browning ingredients prior to adding liquids and seasonings. Large, oval handles make it easy to move pans from stovetop to oven to table. Heavy-gauge cast iron keeps helps keep foods warmer longer, too.

2.0 out of 5 stars great dutch oven, poor enamel coating job., January 17, 2008

I bought this item locally and have used it about four or five times.
it performed very well.
i did not subject it to any kind of abrupt temperature change, i read the FAQ on the Calphalon website for this item before i used it..it was expensive enough i actually read the directions and washed it first, no high heat was used, it has not been used in the oven.
after the first use i noticed small cracks in the enamel all around the logo on one of the handles, after the fourth use there is now a small chip missing and an area of raw cast iron is showing there.
i also noticed slight rust coming through the thinner enamel just at the very top 1/8" of the inside coating, i clean that off with a well used plastic scrubbing pad, the rust returns with each use.
the oven and lid are not enamel coated where they contact each other and these areas will also rust if you use it for storage in the fridge, i did that one time only.
the calphalon website FAQ states that...Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Chipped after only one use, November 26, 2007

I purchased this item at a retail store. The enamel chipped after only one use, even though we were extremely careful handling it. Either their manufacturing process is flawed or Calphalon makes extremely fragile enamelled cookware.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for cooking but enamel chiped after only a week!, January 21, 2008

First, let me start out by saying I LOVE the way this cooks and that's the only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 2. I was so excited to receive this as a Christmas gift! I started using it the day after Christmas and handled it with TLC. I washed it by hand (nothing sticks!) and never even put it in the cabinet with the other cookware. I put it on top of my range for use the next day. I noticed a small nick in the enamel by the yoke of the handle on New Year's Day. I figured it was no big deal and just went with it. Now, less than a month later, the enamel has almost completely chipped off of the yoke, the end of the handle, and along one of the edges. I am returning this to Calphalon for a replacement but I don't hold out much hope for the next one based on the other reviews here.
