Product Review
Marcigny, a small town nestling between the hills of Southern Burgundy, has been home to Emile Henry for the past 150 years. Faithful to its origins, the entire production is carried out here. Thanks to its clay, rich in refractory properties, Burgundy has remained a fertile area for potters, passing on their savoir-faire from generation to generation. Clay, a natural and noble material, has been used since the mists of the time to cook or preserve food. While respecting the traditional techniques, Emile Henry has introduced technological improvements (Ceradon ®) so that the dishes are more resistant to mechanical and thermal shock. Strong, durable, all Emile Henry pieces can be taken directly from the freezer to the hot oven, can go under a broiler and is microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe. The natural clay is unsurpassed for conducting and retaining heat. All pieces are perfect for everyday use and carry a 3 year warranty against defects.
Amazon.com Review
A diminutive version of the full-size pie plate, these Emile Henry Le Potier individual pie dishes let you treat each guest to a personal pastry. High-fired from premium Burgundy clay, the dishes are incredibly durable and distribute heat both gently and evenly throughout the contents. The surface treatment ensures that they transition safely from the freezer to the oven and can go in the broiler, microwave, and dishwasher. The glossy glaze is scratch-resistant for worry-free slicing and serving, and it should not chip, crack, or craze under typical use. Attractive and functional, the design features 1-1/2-inch sides, a ribbed exterior, and a pretty fluted edge. Emile Henry makes the set in a variety of attractive glazes and includes a three-year warranty against defects. Coordinating 9-inch and 12-inch pie plates are also available. --Emily Bedard

This little pie dish is the perfect size for an individual savory pie accompanied by a side salad or a nice hunk of bread. It's not too deep (i.e. not a ramekin) and not too shallow - just a real pie dish in miniature.
The pottery conducts heat evenly and the crust comes out just right. It is also attractive enough to bring directly to the table and the enamled glaze cleans up easily with just a short soak in the sink.
Depending on how much you like your sweet pies, this could also be the perfect size for that too. If you love pie crust, the smaller size gives you a higher crust to filling ratio. Yum!
The main thing when adapting recipes from a traditional large pie to these smaller dishes is that you'll need 1/4 more total crust than filling to acheive right balance.

This is actually a 4.5" pie pan. The quality of the pan is good, but the pan is too small to make a 5" pie.
