Summary: Quality and customer service isn't what I thought it would be 2010-03-05
Comment: After a year of use, the enamel interior of my 5 1/2 quart Le Creuset French Oven is starting to flake off. I e-mailed customer service, three days later no response. So I called customer service, got voicemail each time so I left a message. Got a call back, and I have to spend $25 to ship the item back to them, then they will inspect it and decide whether I get a new piece or a discount (based on whether they think it's a manufacturer's defect- I have a feeling they probably never think it's a manufacturer's defect, since they're the manufacturer). And they don't ship back your old oven either. Their excuse for not responding to my e-mail was that they're having a high volume of calls. If the product really did last a lifetime as they say it does, I wouldn't expect them to have that problem. I'd expect them to be like the Maytag repair man in the commercials, with nothing to fix. Three stars because I actually loved this piece very much before the enamel started coming off, but $260 for a year's worth of use is a bit out of my price range.

I've cooked dozens of meals in this thing and NEVER HAD TO SCRUB IT, not even a little!
I made chili a while back. The even heat meant nothing stuck to the bottom, the tight fitting lid meant I didn't have to check it every 5 minutes to make sure the water hadn't boiled off, and cleaning it took about 2 minutes (and that includes filling it with soapy water).
did I mention that it is my favorite thing in the world to clean?
no, seriously, you just fill it with soapy water, then wait a few minutes
and wipe it clean with a sponge!!!
I hate cleaning dishes (ask my roommates, they'll tell you how much I hate it) so I LOVE this pot.

Summary: better purchase these "in person"-rec'd & returned TWICE w/interior chips 2010-02-16
Comment: Amazon gave great delivery and return service. The first one had a tiny chip inside [which would get bigger over time]so I returned and ordered replacement. That one also had a tiny chip inside on the porcelin, so I returned for full credit. I was very disappointed! Best advice is to shop for these in person so you can visually inspect.
