This charming little French oven is irresistible. One on its own handsomely heats and serves a dip for parties; several allow you to make individual pot pies or almost a cup and a half of cheese-smothered French onion soup for each dinner guest. Made of rugged cast iron and coated in nonporous enamel, the pot takes the heat of any stovetop burner, then finishes baking in the oven (the updated phenolic lid knob is oven-safe to 400 degrees F), with a lid-less stint under the broiler to brown a topping. And, you can make a dish ahead of time and freeze it. The hard enamel resists odor retention, staining, and cracking, and is perfect for marinating.
