Product Review

Beautiful enough for the table and durable enough to outlive its lifetime warranty against defects, this heavy, round, 3.5-quart French oven is perfect for preparing and ceremoniously serving dishes like cassoulet and vegetable soup. It's made of cast iron, with both exterior and interior clad in two coats of enamel. As cast iron is unexcelled for heat distribution and retention and enamel is impervious to acids and odors, the oven (or casserole) browns and cooks food uniformly and gently without hot spots and can be used for marinating. It's safe on any stovetop, including induction, and dishwasher-safe. The plastic knob on its heavy, tight-fitting lid is ovenproof to 450 degrees F. Like all Le Creuset cast-iron products, it's hand cast in a one-of-a-kind sand mold and hand finished at the Le Creuset factory in France. It carries a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Amazon.com Review

If a slow-roasted chicken or rich ratatouille sounds incredibly tempting, this oval French oven, a great casserole dish, will satiate your cravings. The versatility of Le Creuset's dish lets you prepare a recipe on the stove and then move it to the oven, or bake it completely in the oven and then transfer it to table and finally into the dishwasher. The pan's design and tight fitting lid keeps the moisture in with foods (to avoid drying) and maintains full flavor. Always cool this pan before washing, and avoid abrasive pads or cleaners. --Teresa Simanton

I received this for Christmas and use it almost every day. So far nothing has stuck, not even when I burned the pudding (it came out with a rubber scrapper). It is a breeze to clean and a joy to use. I will definitly buy more.

This 3.5 qt French Oven is such a great pot for things such as soups, stews, and larger batches of sauce. It heats evenly and you can usually get away with a lower heat level than called for in a recipe because the heat distribution is really effective. I've already made a number of tasty dishes in this pan, and I can't imagine what I did before I owned this. 3.5 quarts doesn't sound like a lot, but it's plenty of room for a couple or small family. I highly recommend this for cooks of all levels!

It's a real treat to load this thing up with quality foodstuffs and set a flame below it. For me, the size is perfect, all dishes come out great, it's easy to clean, heavy as a ----, and beautiful. I call it - "The Carrot." Next up... the small skillet perhaps.
