This review is from: Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 7-1/4-Quart Round French Oven, Cassis (Kitchen)
There really is something special about Le Creuset. Prior to finally splurging and buying one for myself, I had cooked with a few of their cast iron series pieces on several occasions and always loved them. I chose this larger 7-1/4 quart because I prefer to cook once and eat for a few days after on the leftovers.
My first dish in the new (cassis finish) round oven was an Indian butter masala, to which I added grilled tandoori-style chicken. Excellent results! Smooth, even cooking, great heat retention, and easy clean up afterward. I was a little concerned that the turmeric in the masala might discolor the enamel finish on the inside, but it came away spotless with a quick scrub from the nylon brush. You need to let it sit a while after cooking and then fill it with some water and a little soap for a few, but so far it has cleaned up every time with minimal effort. I've even burned on some buttermilk fried chicken batter over several batches and it all came off with just a...Read more

Well, what can I say...it's Le Creuset! Hey, that should be their motto perhaps! (For those who don't know, it's pronounced: Lay Cru-say") I haven't given it to my wife for her birthday yet, because her birthday is still coming up. But we own lots of various Le Creuset items and we love their quality, which has been a trusted name for years! Can't go wrong buying Le Creuset, my wife swears by it! And this color they came out with, "Cassis" which is a purple/lavendar color, is awesome and my wife's favorite color! You get what you pay for, and if you're serious about cooking, Le Creuset is worth the money!

Bought a set (actually the first complete set I've ever had) of Paula Deen pots and pans in purple some 6 months ago and was very pleased with them. Didn't realize they had to be treated with such kid gloves when it came to cleaning them with a 2 sided nylon/cloth sponge, and I actually tossed, and then reordered, one of the fry pans because I didn't like the scratched non-stick coating. Even my wooden spoons left marks after stirring things in the large pot.
Once I found LeCreuset in Cassis, I purchased one of the oval French ovens when it was on sale at Amazon. The French oven has been my go-to vessel and I love the fact that it can go from stove top to oven. Just to be on the safe side, I bought one of the SS knobs. Cleanup has not been an issue, and neither the sponge nor wooden spoons have damaged the finish.
It's about time for me to restock my freezer with red sauce, I found the 7-1/4 quart round French oven on sale at Amazon, and decided to add it to...Read more
