Lodge Color is one of the newest lines from this respected American cast iron cookware company. Traditionally shaped and more affordable than some European brands, Lodge Color enameled cast iron is just as durable, requires no seasoning, and attractively serves at the table. Lodge infuses this 6-quart Dutch oven with two coats of hard-as-nails porcelain enamel, in a choice of several bright colors that are gradated (dark to light) on the exterior, and which are nicely set off by a cream interior. Embellished with concentric circles and a black knob, the lid, which also fits the Lodge Color 11-inch skillet, is oven-safe to 400 degrees F, so you can start a stew or casserole on the stovetop and finish by baking it in the oven. The 6-quart Dutch oven measures 10-3/4 inches in diameter and 5 inches deep.
Lodge enameled cast iron makes a smart choice due to its versatility-you can marinate raw meats in it, since it won't absorb odors or flavors, and you can braise, sauté, simmer, and bake in it. Made in China to Lodge's meticulous specifications, each cookware item is first clad in matte black enamel before the color is added. The black rim that shows on the oven is actually the scratch-resistant matte enamel, not the raw cast iron. Though the Dutch oven is dishwasher-safe, washing by hand is recommended to best preserve the glossy finish. Look also for the pricier Lodge Enamel series, with its unique L-shaped lid knob, in a different set of colors and sizes to suit any kitchen. All Lodge enameled ware is covered by a lifetime warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

Comment: I was sauteing some onions and all of a sudden I heard a loud bang. I ssw glass like chips all over my stove and floor. I was totally freaked out. I thought something exploded. It took me a while to figure out what it was because the bottom of the pot was the last place I looked. A large outer part of the pot shot out. I have always hand washed this pot and have never placed it in a dish washer. Don't waste your money on this pot. I have this pot for less than less than three months and have used it less than ten times. I have contacted the seller. I'm hopeful for a refund.

Comment: I purchased this item because I was hoping the enamel would prevent the food from sticking to the bottom, which was the case with aluminum dutch ovens.
Well, I didn't mind the enamel discoloration and staining during first few times of use. But what really made me literally to toss it out into trash container is that there was no single time when food would NOT stick to the bottom and burn. I used all oils I could get my hands on. Olive, Sunflower, Corn, Vegetable, Soy, Sesame... even tried bacon fat. Last week it was the last straw and down the trash it went. I will buy a non-coated dutch oven next.

Comment: I love it. I also have the 3 quart Lodge Dutch oven and I am very pleased with both.

Summary: OK for the money but would pay more if made in the USA 2010-07-29
Comment: It's made in China and it shows. I have been extremely careful with this pot and yet I'm seeing rust in one spot around the rim. Also, the lid has three equally spaced protrusions that keep it from making a tight seal. I wouldn't buy from Lodge again unless they brought the manufacturing back to the USA. If this is the type of cookware you really want, go with the real deal and get Le Cruset. (I have a smaller pot by them and the quality is much better)
