Product Review

The "L" Series Dutch Oven is not only excellent for cooking, it is also the ideal vessel to serve meals in. Complimenting the stylish porcelain finish is the graceful "L" shaped stainless steel handle on the lid, providing a generous grip and perfect balance when handling while cooking or when cleaning. It can be used on all stove tops and in ovens, including induction, at temperatures below 500 degrees F. Not to be used in the microwave or on outdoor grills / campfires. Where the lid and pot meet, the visible black edge is a matte enamel undercoat more chip resistant than the primary colors. The white enamel cooking surface is FDA approved. Porcelain enamel eliminates the need to "season" cast iron, creating a non reactive surface perfect for all cooking techniques, as well as marinating, refrigerating or freezing. The corrosion resistant No. 304 stainless steel handle remain cool-touch while cooking on stovetop at moderate heat. 6 Qt, liberty blue

The pot is lovely, the blue is much darker than it appears on my computer, but it looks quite elegant. I love the handle design.

Only one problem: there is a big chip cracked on the inside of the lid where one of the handle screws is. I am sad, I was really looking forward to cooking with this. I will update again when I find out how the return goes.

I love the look and it is everything I expected, except I am now worried about durability. The packaging was undamaged, and I never even got so far as washing it much less cooking in it, so I'm a bit worried. I plan to return it however and get another one just like it, which hopefully will be in good shape. We shall see.

UPDATE: The chip fell off as I was packing it to send back.

I decided not to reorder. I LOVE the look and feel of the pot, but the glaze on the edge looked thin, and the enamel chipping before even being used makes me feel like I won't ever be able to use the pot without...Read more

I decided to order the Lodge 6-quart dutch oven based on previous glowing reviews and much research (I even called Lodge to discuss quality control since their enamelware is made in China). I really wanted Staub or Le Creuset from France but decided I didn't want to spend the extra money. Well, the adage "you get what you pay for" has proven true once again. After using the Lodge only one time some of the porcelain finish came off from around one of the bolts on the inside of the lid. And, pray tell, where did this porcelain go? In our food? I can only presume so I will have to throw away the rest of the chili I made. Hope we didn't ingest the glass yesterday before I noticed the missing finish. I will be ordering Staub or Le Creuset later today and won't look back. Sorry, Lodge. You should have stuck to manufacturing all your pots in the USA.

I agree with others that the picture is off on the color. The actual color is more of a Navy blue. I didn't experience any of the porcelain chipping or cracking and I've made bread in it several times with the lid at temperatures up to 500 degrees, and filled it with oil for frying. I haven't had any issues with it that you wouldn't get with any dutch oven, such as it's freaking big and heavy. True it isn't made in the USA, but it doesn't say it all over the add either. It's hard to find a dutch oven in this size and price range that doesn't have a plastic handle.
