A worthy replacement for the departed 5" Dutch Oven,

To understand the handle on the lid you need to know the history of this pot. Lodge used to make a 5" size. They discontinued that size and the prices on auction sites went insane. The president of Lodge claimed they could not be made on their new production equipment. Then my 5" lid went missing. I was on a mission to replace it. I read a post about some unique Lodge products that were only made for Japan. That sent me on a surfing trip to Japanese Dutch Oven sites. I could not read a single character but I found the picture of what I sought a 5" Lodge Dutch Oven. A long and language challenged correspondence followed resulting in me securing my goal. It was a challenge but Lodge had managed to produce 2000 for the Japanese market. This while telling fans and customers in the USA it was impossible. When the fans in the US found out that they had not exactly been told the truth they were not happy. A short time later Lodge announce the 6" model which is easier to cast on...Read more

It's a real dutch oven, ready for camping.,

I bought this to take on solo camping trips, especially motorcycle camping. I have a larger dutch oven but it just isn't worth bringing when I'm cooking for myself. I also bring it along with my larger oven when camping with others.
It fits my needs perfectly.
I have cooked breads/biscuits, stews, meat, shepherd pie/pot pies, frittata/spanish tortilla, and more over charcoals and even wood fires. I carry a small can of spray oil and use a pair of welding/utility gloves (handy to have along anyway). It is fully capable of baking a tiny but perfectly browned and tasty hamburger-bun sized loaf of bread or just about anything you can do in a larger dutch oven. Cleans up easily (assuming you know how to cook with cast iron). It can also come in handy for heating up sauces or side dishes on the grill or in an oven at home. There is a learning curve with any dutch oven but that's part of the fun.
As far as I know there is simply nothing on the market to...Read more

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lodge Logic 1 Quart Camp Dutch Oven (Kitchen)
Okay, the description stated that it was one quart (Lodge Logic "ONE" Quart Camp Dutch Oven). I thought that they'd mixed up my boxes or failed to ship this. NOPE! It's just small. If it were any smaller I would have thought I'd purchased something that was meant to be decorative. Well, I can't grouse about any of that because they told me what it was. It's adorable and frankly, I wouldn't want anything too large to take on a small camping trip. Somehow I just envisioned it would be a little bigger. (smile) I'll stand in the camp of the other posters who have used it and say that I expect that this will stand the test of time just like my other Lodge cast iron. The lack of an easily usable lid-handle is the only reason that I'm giving this item 4 stars instead of 5. I'm taking this cutie to my work bench as soon as I finish this review. Glad I got one!! :D
